stefan schwander has been releasing his heavily processed and sequenced take on african music and american minimalism under his harmonious thelonious moniker since 2008.

daniel helmer and ben manzone started making tracks as sycorax back in early 2011. since then they have self-released 2 in demand 12 inches. in the spring of 2012 they debuted their live all hardware set at the bunker in brooklyn. their second 12 inch titled orfamay quest was a top seller of 2012 at halcyon records. mike simonetti has known ben from sycorax for over 15 years, and is probably more proud of this release than any other to date. true underground sounds.

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. mgun is the pseudonym of rising detroit star manuel gonzales. since collaborating with kyle hall as nsnt prjct in 2010, gonzales has developed a uniquely lo-fi sound all of his own, a sound first showcased on his debut solo release which appeared in 2012 on the wild oats imprint. his first release for don’t be afraid will hit stores in october 2012 and is bound to spin heads, demonstrating as it does his particular avant garde take on modern techno, not least the game changing ‘gas chamber’ cut which, at 138 bpm, sounds as at home in bow e3 london as it does in his native detroit.

atjazz & fred everything are back together again. their last collaboration dates 2010 on lazy days but the pair have been friends since the late 90s and have collaborated and remixed each other countless times. the beast and the ghost explores the deeper, dubber side of their production. the project was started in derby and finished in san francisco, while atjazz worked on his inside dub from home. this will be featured on the upcoming lazy dubs compilation, out in january.

despite the advent and cari lekebusch being two of the most enduring names in techno, the release of sonic intervention is the most high profile product to date of a working relationship that has that has spanned almost the entire history of techno. something of a landmark for all concerned, not only is it the first full-length album from the advent since 2005 s t.r.i.n.i.t.y long player for berlin s tresor records but for h-productions and its founder, the project is the highlight thus far of the labels resurgent release schedule. as lekebusch commented, to have known and respected cisco and his music or so long it was of course a great moment to get to release this album. the blend of old and new styles with high caliber the advent production has created a strong album with depth and variety that i think new and old fans alike will really enjoy .

michel amato aka the hacker is without a doubt one of the most successful and accomplished french djs and producers. since 1992 he is part of the international techno szene, widely acclaimed as a solo artist as well as persuing thriving projects with miss kittin. he is a rare gem ... an artists who always stayed true to his style and his early musical influences of bands such as cabaret voltaire, throbbing gristle, einstürzende neubauten, depeche mode or joy division. for his new satori ep on correspondant he makes no exception! originally hailing from mexico, daniel proclaimed disco caveman and rising comeme (matias aguayos label), transforms michels white funk into a psychedelic disco track. the remix unmistakably bears his signature: it is a maloso. offsets remix is a crawling monster. he digged deep and the result is a dark and hypnotic remix of white funk.

in 2011 it got a little quiet around the co-productions of fraenzen texas and ruede hagelstein aka the cheapers. but since the beginning of the new year the lights dont go out in their studio doing beats and sound. next to releases on areal records and bar25 the uy063 was born. title of the name giving a-side goes back on a quote from paris hilton who wants to tell with >amazeballs< how super cool she finds things. anyway the two artists made it real with their concise bassline which will make the people reliably squeak more than hobby djane hilton. on the b-side things turn a bit more severe: egyptian summer quotes with samples the arabic spring in africa and produces a revolutionary ground mood which has never been heard before. on b2 however there are the cheaperesque absurdities on the microfon like we know them. depositing skillfully their own vocals in the belly of a hungry electro monster.

nice price deal !!! real name dan griober, dan habarnam has been active since the 90s, doing production for romanian pop artists while also working on his own projects. his solo catalog is pretty slim, with just a few appearances on drum & bass labels like santorin and subtle audio, but from the known is clearly the work of an experienced artist: though loosely anchored in techno, ambient and bass music, its stylistically open-ended, and produced with an audiophiles attention to detail. according to the label, groibers meticulousness extended to the mastering process as well (the cd, for instance, was recorded direct from the vinyl to achieve that special analog feel)

march sees the formidable hypercolour deliver its most surprising output yet, an ep from none other than groove armada. tom findlay and andy cato need little introduction as groove armada. chart smashes, huge live tours and being part of the worldwide electronic music history aside, the duo have never lost touch with their acid house roots and have continued to be devoted to record buying, djing and the much maligned promo trawl. tom and andy have been avid followers of the label it seemed, since its inception. it was through label head jamie, meeting the guys back in 2010 at space in ibiza, and then continued communication via hypercolour promos, that led to an out-of-the-blue email requesting an informal hook up in east london and, within just a few days, a release was scheduled. that release is the >no knock ep<, four tracks that range from 808 fuelled old school cuts to low slung, moog-bassd electronic funk. each sound is lovingly crafted but there is an analog rawness throughout and every track has the sort of tweaked, off-kilter and occasionally awkward vibe that hypercolour do so well. it just takes a bit of imagination to guess what a ga release on hypercolour should sound but failing that, just check the release out as it wont disappoint.

loftsoul is the moniker of renowned dj uchikawa masahiko. he has been a dj for more than 25 years, and is deeply involved with the japanese nightclub scene since its early days. his borderless and genre-straddling playing style, from soul, jazz, dance classics, deep house, to techno tells of the impassioned music life of dj uchikawa masahiko. in addition to running regular parties at his club loft in nagano, (which has hosted djs such as joe claussell, jerome sydenham and glenn underground) and premier at loop, uchikawa has been recording tracks as loftsoul, and collaborating with pianist makoto kuriya as rhythm of elements. >soul inspiration< sees loftsouls continued collaboration with chicago house stalwart glenn underground alongside ricardo miranda aka the latin soul brothas. >soul inspiration< is a deliciously deep groove with trademark virtuoso piano for some esoteric soulful dance floor action. the b-side sees the latin soul brothas slow it down for them electronic soul of the moog mix. finally, dj uchikawa and hide koyama provide an essential dub.

an electro hacktivist since the 90s, french techno pionneer, inventor of what became electro clash with miss kittin, true italo disco lover, legitimate son of dopplereffekt and kraftwerk and godfather of the new french sensation gesaffelstein with whom he runs the label zone. when michel amato (his real name) contacted us with a few tracks we felt so honored. he really got back to his roots here with deep italo and electro, warm analog synths against cold robotic drum machines, great melodies. it would have been a hit on the now defunct cbs radio.

after only a tiny time-out cómeme can t help but remain restless and return even more internationalist than before, since this ep brings together artists from moscow, medellin and cologne, as well as guests from spain. its a collection of tracks that translate comemes ever quintessential voltage into different musical temperaments, drawing the bow from infectious semi-electronic body music and cumbia-inspired rhythm affairs to detached pitch-frenzied sequence-disco and a sphinxy creature with fanfares and whiplashes.
